|Research into Agriculture, Horticulture, Rural Development and Food Processing||
Research services are not services available to individual citizens, nonetheless the output from these services in terms of End of Project publications are available to the individual citizen on the Teagasc public website www.teagasc.ie.
T-Stór – Open Access Repository - T-Stór makes freely available scholarly communication, including peer-reviewed articles, working papers, conference papers and other publications, created by Teagasc staff. |Advisory Services to the farming community||
Teagasc’s advisory services are delivered in person either on a one to one basis or through the use of discussion groups. While the nature of knowledge transfer provided under this service is generally better provided in person rather than electronically, Teagasc provides a number of electronic tools to allow clients to self serve on and off line. These include:
Farm Profit Monitoring - The https://epm.teagasc.ie web application allows Teagasc clients to record financial and other data about their enterprise on an annual basis, and to benchmark this against best practice and produce management reports on their farm’s performance.
Grassland Management - The https://pasturebase.teagasc.ie/ web application is a grassland management decision support tool and a mechanism to capture background data on farms. PastureBaseIreland stores all grassland measurements in a common structure. This will allow the quantification of grass growth and DM production (total and seasonal) across different enterprises, grassland management systems, regions, and soil types using a common measurement protocol and methodology.
Dairy Herd Monitoring - The http://dhm.teagasc.ie web application allows Teagasc’s Dairy clients to record physical farm data and a limited amount of financial data, on a monthly basis, and to benchmark this against best practice and produce management reports on their farm’s performance.
NMP online https://nmp.teagasc.ie is an online system for developing nutrient management plans for environment and regulatory purposes. It is available to all Agricultural professionals
Irish Soil Information System - The Irish Soil Information System project, http://gis.teagasc.ie/soils/, has developed a national association soil map for Ireland at a scale of 1:250,000, together with an associated digital soil information system, providing both spatial and quantitative information on soil types and properties across the country. Both the map and the information system are made freely available to the public through this website. This major project began in 2008 with Phase 1 ending in 2014. Phase 2 continues into 2015 with the aim of producing derivative soil attribute maps for inclusion within the system.
Soil Analysis Online (SAOL) - The https://saol.teagasc.ie web application provides Teagasc clients with on line access to soil analysis results. This has many benefits from faster access to soil results to more efficient annual fertiliser planning. Nutrient advice can be updated annually on a field by field basis where field management details change for example stocking rates / crop types / manure applications etc.
General Farming Practice - The https://www.teagasc.ie website provides a huge repository of publications on good farming practice and also provides a significant number of calculators for use on and off-line.
